5 Days Uganda Gorilla Trekking Safari Tour Primate Tour – Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Transfer to Kibale national park
Depart at your domicile in Kampala after an early breakfast at 08:00 hours with the company of our guide and head to Kibale via Mityana – Fort portal road traversing through the verdant country side and traditional landscapes with small towns of Mubende.
Approach Fort portal town for lunch at Rwenzori traveler’s inn. Proceed to Kibale National park for check in at Ndali Lodge (Luxury/upmarket), CVK Resort (budget/basic) or Kibale forest camp (midrange/standard). FB. You can visit the Ndali – Kasenda crater area in the evening for stunning scenery.
Day 2: Encounter Man’s Closest Relative – The Chimpanzee
Gather at Kanyanchu park headquarters for chimpanzee trekking activity at 08:00 hours Briefing is pre-condition before penetrating the forest in search of these habituated chimpanzees.
This 2 – 3 hour experience is quite rewarding. Other primate species like red Colobus monkeys, black-and-white Colobus monkeys, l’Hoestes monkeys, red-tailed monkeys, vervet and blue monkeys, grey-cheeked mangabeys, olive baboons, and four species of nocturnal primates (pottos and bush babies) can be seen.
Have an afternoon encounter with Bigodi wetland sanctuary for birds, sitatunga and community walk before returning to your lodge for dinner and overnight. HB.
Day 3: Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park
Have an early morning breakfast and start your long journey to Bwindi. Have lunch en route and approach Bwindi in the evening.
Dinner and overnight at Mahogany springs (luxury/upmarket), Silverback lodge (mid-range/standard) or Engagi lodge (budget/ basic). FB
Day 4: Encounter Mountain Gorillas in Their Pleistocene Refigium
Wake up for an early morning cup of coffee and gather at tracking starting site at 8:00 for briefing and long day gorilla tracking experience. Carry lunch box for this 2 – 8 hour activity.
Return to the lodge after tracking and spend another overnight at Silverback lodge (mid-range), Mahogany springs (luxury) or Engagi lodge (budget) HB.
Optional: Take an evening nature walk along the main forest trails to explore the forest in detail, if time permits or take a Batwa evening encounter.
Day 5: Return to Kampala
Depart from Bwindi after breakfast via the green lush of south western Uganda with beautiful farms and plantations. Lunch en-route at Igongo cultural center.
You can make a stop at the Equator crossing- Kayabwe for photography and water experiments plus another stop at Mpambire drum village to witness local craftsmanship of drum making or a fruit market along the same road. Arrive in Kampala in the evening.
